latest issue of ombudsman news now available

14 July 2003

Issue 29 of ombudsman news is now available on the Financial Ombudsman Service website. In this edition we:

  • highlight some practical matters that could affect firms, and us, as a result of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002; and
  • take a look at some of the travel insurance disputes that reach us, focusing particularly on those relating to claims for the cancellation or curtailment of a holiday - and to the exclusion of "pre-existing" medical conditions from cover.

We also:

  • focus on some of the complaints we have received that involve the "voluntary concessions" firms sometimes make for their banking and mortgage customers;
  • clarify the differences between "guaranteed income bonds" and "guaranteed capital bonds"; and
  • provide a wide-ranging round-up of recent investment-related complaints.
