frequently-asked questions

why don't you hold a hearing in every case?

We’re an informal alternative to the court system – our aim is to resolve problems as quickly, cost-effectively and informally as we can.

Because we work openly with both sides as a matter of course in each case – giving both an equal chance to tell their side of the story – it’s very rare for an ombudsman to decide a hearing is necessary.

There’s more information about hearings in our fact sheet on the 'quick guides...' page of our website.
