new Start for Ombudsman in Docklands

3 November 1999

The new Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme will be based at CIT Group's South Quay Plaza II in London's Docklands, it was announced today.

Andreas Whittam Smith, Chairman of the FSOS Board, said:

Our job in establishing the new Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme is not just to bring together the existing ombudsman schemes, but to build something new and different that will lead to an even better service for the public and for the financial services industry. Moving to a new building underlines the fact that while we must safeguard the expertise and authority that the existing schemes have built up, we also want to make a fresh start.

Martin Roberts, Investment Director at Capital & Income Trust Group said:

We are delighted that the FSOS has selected South Quay as its new headquarters. We had to take three surrenders in order to accommodate the FSOS and the building is now fully let. There has been strong demand for offices in the Docklands as the opening of the Jubilee line stations continues, currently between Waterloo and Stratford

The offices which comprise over 60,000 sq ft are spread over 4 floors and will provide accommodation for up to 400 staff. The space planning and design of the new offices is being undertaken by DEGW, Architects, and supervised by BWA Project Services, project managers. The staff of the existing schemes are expected to move to the new headquarters by April 2000. FSOS was advised by Weatherall Green and Smith, CIT by DTZ Debenham Thorpe.
