Many people can't afford to take their case to court - so it's important that we're accessible and available to everyone.

When we were first set up by Parliament under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, it was agreed that free consumer access to the ombudsman was essential - to give consumers confidence in financial services, by knowing we can help if something goes wrong.

So it's a fundamental part of our service - and other ombudsman schemes in the UK provide their services free to consumers as well.
