Financial Ombudsman Service celebrates one year anniversary in Belfast with investigator recruitment drive

Press release : Category Recruitment : Category

A year on from the opening of our Belfast hub, we are announcing 32 new investigator positions

Since opening the hub in September 2024, investigators in Belfast have dealt with a variety of issues including disputes about banking, insurance and fraud and scams. While investigators in Belfast deal with complaints from across the UK, there were over 4,000 complaints from Northern Ireland in the past year, demonstrating the need for a presence in the region.

We are a UK-wide, free and easy-to-use service that settles disputes between consumers and financial businesses.

Financial services have evolved significantly since we were first set up 25 years ago. That is why we are working closely with HM Treasury and the Financial Conduct Authority to modernise the UK's dispute resolution system, making it more agile and responsive and a much better fit for today's economy.

We are looking for candidates who want to play an important role in shaping fair financial outcomes for consumers and businesses across the UK and who can build trust and communicate with empathy.

These unique roles will see investigators making evidence-based decisions about a wide variety of financial complaints.

We are also soon to announce our city centre office location, further solidifying our commitment to providing exceptional support to the businesses and consumers of Northern Ireland.

Jenny Simmonds, interim Chief Executive of the Financial Ombudsman Service commented:

"The past year has been a remarkable journey for our team in Belfast. We are one service, UK-wide, and it’s with tremendous pride that we are expanding our workforce in Belfast.
“These roles are incredibly important, and our service plays a vital role in helping both consumers and businesses across the UK receive fair outcomes.
“We look forward to continuing our work in Belfast and helping people take the next step in their career; becoming part of a team that’s making a difference.”

At the Financial Ombudsman Service, you can expect an innovative, flexible employer who places its customers at the centre of everything the organisation does.

We offer extensive benefits including a generous pension, private medical insurance, income protection and opportunities for personal and career development.

Successful candidates will take part in an 18-week training academy, including one week of residential training in London.

Investigators will work a hybrid pattern, with travel to the hub office required one day per week.

Applications close at 11.59pm on 25 September 2025.
